The TW Classic harks back to the old Werchter festival, in the days before 1994. Its formula is proven. One: A beautiful day on an early summer weekend. Two: A festival parkwith a single stage. Three: A first-rate, lively audience. Four: A select group of established, big name performers. TW Classic is not just classic by name. Now in its tenth year, many see it as the unofficial start to the summer season. Some telling names have already led the festivities - The Rolling Stones, The Police, Bryan Adams, Lenny Kravitz, Phil Collins, Simple Minds and Elton John. TW Classic 2009 is on Saturday the 20th of June at the Werchter festival park! Topping the bill this year are Depeche Mode!

Next week Saturday is D-Day once again! The gates of the Werchter Festival grounds will open for the first time this festival season for TW Classic! Depeche Mode is the absolute top of the bill of that day. The day before yesterday the 'Tour of the Universe' – interrupted for a while as frontman Dave Gahan needed to undergo surgery – was kicked off again in Leipzig. Their gig at TW Classic is looked forward to. The second single from their wonderful new album "Sounds of the Universe" has just been released. Important! Because frontman Dave Gahan is ill at the moment, a few Depeche Mode concerts were cancelled over the last couple of weeks. The 'Tour of the Universe' will resume on June 8 in Leipzig. Depeche Mode will therefore perform at TW Classic as planned!

With DEPECHE MODE TW Classic 2009 has a solid headliner. The British three-piece can present one of the most impressive yet curious success stories in the history of music. The synth-driven boys band turned into a trailblazing reference. Their slot at the then-called Torhout/Werchter festival in 1985 caused quite some consternation amongst the rock audience. But only a couple of years later, Depeche Mode were the first electronic band to sell out footballs stadiums and to be embraced by rock fans. In 2006, the Britons returned to Rock Werchter as undisputed headliners. In the meanwhile, Depeche Mode have sold over 70 million albums and they are one of the most successful live acts ever. For TW Classic, Depeche Mode will take along their latest album (listen to ‘Wrong’, the impressive new single) and a extensive list of hits!
