Courtney Barnett

American slacker rock meets Australian humour. Courtney Barnett from Melbourne makes music that takes us back to the halcyon days of Pavement and Sonic Youth. Her stories are poetic, funny sketches of the chaos that surrounds us daily. She was discovered in 2013 at the CMJ Music Marathon, an important New York talent festival. Barnett’s sparkling songs and blazing live performance were wildly praised. She backed this up with her debut album ‘Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit’ (2015). This record made the top ten of end-of-year lists all over the world and led to collaborations with Kurt Vile and her great heroine Kim Deal, of Pixies and The Breeders fame. Conversely, she can count Jack White and Barack Obama as great fans. Her latest release ‘Things Take Time, Take Time’ (2021) confirms that Barnett is among those who will be setting standards for the years ahead.
