Jimmy Barnes

Jimmy Barnes is loved by all Australians. No other artist has had as many hit albums down under as the white rock and soul singer with the genes of Michael Hutchence, John Cougar Mellencamp and Bob Seger. Barnes was born in Glasgow, Scotland. His parents relocated to Adelaide when he was four. He grew up surrounded by poverty and alcoholism. This marked him for life, and he described his experiences in his celebrated memoirs ‘Working Class Boy’ (2016) and ‘Working Class Man’ (2017), which have since been turned into films. Music saved his life. Barnes joined Cold Chisel as singer in the early ‘70s. The group played a combination of soul, blues, rockabilly and hard rock and became an institution. Barnes has also enjoyed a successful career as a solo artist. Now in his sixties, he released his 17th album in January and is at last taking the time to explore the rest of the world.
